Each month we post a wish list for a different non-profit organizations in town. It is our hope that people in the community who see this list might be able to help meet these needs in some way. If everyone gives just a little, we can help so many others.

Parent Mentor Training
The Family to Family (F2F) Parent Mentor is a trained volunteer parent of a child with special needs, who is willing to give peer support to another parent, whose child is currently in the First Steps system. Peer support would be encouragement and empathetic sharing, to help a family work through the feelings and concerns of raising a child with special needs. Click on Parent Mentor to access the on-line training if you would like to begin the process of being considered as a Parent Mentor. If you are currently in First Steps and would like to be matched with a Parent Mentor, contact the F2F Parent Liaison in your First Steps cluster. Go to www.inf2f.org and click on Services to find the contact information for your Parent Liaison.
Chances are, you and the people you know and love have not gone unscathed by the current economic downturn. While all of us tighten our belts and adjust our priorities we at ASK are being forced to do the same.
ASK recently received word that it is facing an approximate $80,000 cut in funds from its largest and most crucial funding source. At an average annual cost for serving a family at $400, we need your help to serve the 200 families who will be affected by this cut in funds. Please consider a donation to ASK and click on this link to make your donation.
GlamourGals' events, donors and fundraisers enable the organization to create more chapters across the nation and provide critical funds to our volunteers for scholarships and to attend the Leadership Training Institute each year in New York City. The GlamourGals Leadership Training Institute is a one-day conference held for our volunteers to connect, collaborate, and foster their leadership skills. The day features accomplished and inspirational speakers in the fashion and beauty fields, interactive workshops, and public speaking exercises.
Our local mission is to foster intergenerational relationships between teen girls and elderly women living in senior homes through monthly facials and makeovers.
Our national mission is to create the structure and provide the resources that encourage compassionate teen leadership through local intergenerational programming.
In 2000, Rachel Doyle started the first GlamourGals chapter in Commack, NY as a passionate, motivated 17-year-old looking to honor her grandmother. The first makeover was with only three volunteers, and today, Ms. Doyle is GlamourGals' full-time President, managing the chapters while also leading the fundraising effort through collaboration with the Executive Board, Advisory Board, and Board of Directors of GlamourGals
GG volunteers meet and chat with elderly women and provide them with complimentary facials and makeovers, followed by a mini photo shoot. The room fills with color, conversation, and compassion.
